Errol Tony Soma is the writer of the book project, THE SPEAKEASY KING; biography of his grandfather, Tony Soma; owner of Tony's, the most popular speakeasy in New York City during the Roaring Twenties.

Exhibitionists all, when they found themselves locked safely within the gates of the speakeasy, safe from the general public stare...   -Tony Soma

Happy Birthday Ricki!

May 9, 1929 Ricki Soma was born. She was the second child of Tony and his first wife Angelica. Tragically their first child, a son they named George passed at eight years old in 1927. Ricki’s given name was Enrica Georgia Soma. Tony nicknamed her Ricki. She was to become the light of Tony’s life, of all the children he had since, she was his favorite out of all of them. Tragically she died in a car crash in France on January 29, 1969. Her sister Linda, and niece Natasha were also born the same day. May 9 was known as “girls day.” Picture below is of Ricki and Tony. This photograph was taken by Philippe Halsman in the late 1940’s. This is one of my favorite photographs of the family.
